In between instrument work one needs to eat. What's
better to eat than homemade pizza made using a custom-built pizza peel!
This began as a request from my wife for a pizza peel. I looked around for one and didn't find many locally and what I did find seemed too expensive so I decided to make one. Thinking "how tough can that be" and "I can build something for less than that" I proceeded to the workshop. Initially it was going to be a standard issue square pizza peel and then things sort of got out off hand.
The neck is maple with a purpleheart headstock overlay. The body is pine. The lower bout of the body is sized to fit a 14" pizza.
|The body is profiled from 5/8" to 1/4" and then to the leading edge which is 1/8".|
The body is finished with Watco Butcher Block oil. It's a food-safe finish. The neck is finished with Minwax Polycrylic. It's a very nice finish for this purpose though I wouldn't use it on a real neck.
